{Happy 2012!}

Well, it’s that time of year again. A time of looking ahead, saying goodbye to the previous year, and starting anew. I tend to reflect on what I could have done better and the things that I didn’t get around to doing. This year I want to reflect on the blessings, the trials the Lord helped me through, and accomplishments (no matter how small they were). I started 2011 off with going back to my first love by attending the Gift of Memoir class taught by Maureen Griffin. I loved the first class and started going to it every month. I learned so much and was inspired to keep pursuing my goals as a writer.

My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity of spending some time in Rome and Florence, Italy. It was an amazing trip and am so glad I got to see Europe before I have this little one. Here are a few images from our trip:

After I got back from Italy, I had the opportunity to go to Justin and Mary Marantz Spread the Love Tour again. If they are ever in Charlotte again, whether you are a photographer, graphic designer, or some other small business owner, I highly recommend their seminar. It is so inspiring and will challenge you to do what you do even better.

In April I got to participate in Central Church of God‘s High Heels in Action 5K (my 2nd 5K and I beat my time from 2010 by 2 minutes . The proceeds go to help stamp out human trafficking. I plan on participating in this year’s race as well.

In the beginning of June we found out we are expecting! It definitely came as a surprise, especially considering what we were going through, but we are really excited.

I also had the opportunity to go to another David Jay seminar in Charlotte. It was another inspiring and stimulating seminar that I would highly recommend to photographers.

Another thing I wanted to do before I had children was go on another international mission’s trip. In July, I had the amazing opportunity to go to Ambato, Ecuador with a team (including my parents) from Central Church of God. We were able to see the beautiful country of Ecuador, share the love of Christ, and work with the most gorgeous and precious children in the world.

In August, Tracy and I celebrated our 6th anniversary. We had the lovely and talented Megan of Lime Green Photography document these images for us.

In September we found out we are having a baby…boy!!

I had a very busy Fall season and we were able to get away in the midst to visit Tracy’s family in the Charleston area…a well needed break.

I also had two very special baby showers and I turned the BIG 3-0.

We had another lovely and talented photographer (Jenna of Red, White & Green Photography) document us for our maternity pictures. Baby Jax Alan is due in just around a month (which is SO hard to believe). I know my life is about to change drastically and I do not know what to expect by becoming a mother, but I do hope I will become a better person and photographer. I just want to THANK YOU to all the families that allowed me into your homes and lives to document what is near and dear to you. I can’t wait to see what 2012 holds!

That’s a wrap…for 2011 anyway (that is so hard to believe!)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas weekend. I am trying to get things back to normal after a break from work while visiting my husband’s family in Alabama. It was nice to get away for a few days. Now, I have only 5 more weeks to prepare for a baby! So crazy to think! Onto this lovely family…

they are one of my favorite families, as I have been photographing little Clayton since he was just a few days old. It has been such a pleasure watching them grow. I am so glad we were able to do a session before the New Year. We had an awesome evening to do them as well. Thank you so much, “C” family. I hope you enjoy your enjoy your slideshow here!

{Maternity leave update}…Charlotte, NC baby and family photographer

I wanted to put it out there when I am deciding to go on maternity leave. I will be taking VERY limited sessions in January (in fact, I can only take a couple of more) and February. I will plan to resume full-time on March 1st if all goes well. I am not scheduling any sessions January 16th-31st and February 1st-14th… please inquire about available dates in February thereafter. This is tentative right now, because I have no idea when he will decide to show, so these dates may change. I will keep you posted!

A while back, I had the opportunity to go to The Cove with Central Church of God’s women’s ministry. That year they were asking businesses to donate their services for some gifts they were going to be giving out at The Cove. Well, I donated, and was blessed to get to photograph the beautiful “S” family, who won my prize. I started out photographing the boys just hanging out in the backyard. Then, I got to photograph their new 3 month old little sister…she is such a doll! Dad had to work, but we grabbed a few of him and mom towards the end when he got home. I have photographed these beautiful sisters a couple of times before, but this past time they seem so grown up. Big sis is turning 6 next month and little sis just turned 3. We headed over to the Mint Museum to have the girls….well, be girls. I loved their interaction with each other and how mom had them dressed. Wow! What a week it has been! I feel like throwing in the towel sometimes. I have felt overwhelmed a little bit with the fact that I am about to be a mommy, I am in the midst of my busy season and seriously thinking and praying about a different business plan and pricing structure, I got poison ivy on my face, arms, and stomach, my BIG shower is this weekend at my mom’s, getting ready for out of town guests, blog being down, slideshow not working exactly right, etc., etc. But, I am reminded that the Lord is my strength and wanted to share this encouraging verse:

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.” Psalms 28:7

On to this lovely family…this was my first time meeting and photographing the “W” family. I loved how this beautiful mom coordinated her family’s outfits and how it went so great with the beauty of Fall. It was a pleasure meeting you all and hope you enjoy your slideshow here! (slideshow is still not exactly right…there shouldn’t be a black box, so I am trying to see what to do about that!)

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the “L” family again. The first time we had a session, their little girl wasn’t even walking yet, and their son has turned it to quite an handsome young man. He is fascinated with trains, so when this beautiful mommy and I were thinking of a location, she thought Belmont sounded perfect. It was so great seeing you guys again and I hope you enjoy your slideshow here!

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous to photograph this family of six, with four kids ranging from 18 months to 10 years old. Plus, mommy is a photographer herself and I don’t know why, but I feel more pressure, you know? BUT, the upside of photographing a photographer’s family is she chose the coolest location and outfits! I love the rustic feel to these. I hope you do too, Corrie! Your family is absolutely beautiful and I had a blast. Thank you for choosing me to capture these for you. I can’t believe today is NOVEMBER! We are in the midst of the beautiful Fall season, and I had the wonderful opportunity to document this lovely family in their own beautiful backyard. It was such a joy to photograph this lovely family this past weekend. They did great as we braved the chilly Saturday morning air. You know when they are awesome clients when they are up for climbing over and through fences to get in a golden field. Thank you so much “T” family! This is “C” favorite toy…Madeline, also known as “Mae.” It was so precious watching her love on this beloved toy.

Seriously I did not enhance the color of her eyes…they are THAT beautiful!

How about “C” grandmother made her this adorable Cinderella costume. It amazes me what people can do! She looks so adorable in it.
