Availability, hours, news…

Hi there! We are on the brink of a busy season and wanted to put out there what availability I have left for Fall (Sept.-Nov)…

My hours are Tuesdays-Saturdays. I am only taking 2-3 sessions per week that way I can give you the most customized and customer-service oriented experience. The days I have left in September-Nov are (for Saturdays)…

Oct. 9th (afternoon)

Oct. 30th (morning or afternoon)

Nov. 20th (morning or afternoon)

* I still have days that I am available during the week. The above dates are available Saturdays that are left.

* I will be out of the office Nov. 23-27 & Dec. 21-27.

* If you need print/products/cards by Christmas time, all orders need to be in by Dec. 6th.

*Booking as usual for December.

It might seem really insignificant, but I have been searching for an action with rounded corners….a set of actions that wouldn’t break the bank and would be super easy to use. Well, my good friend and designer Jessica turned me onto this web-site. She also created my logo watermark. It puts a big smile on my face. It doesn’t take much.

When I receive the Professional Photographer Magazine every month, it’s like Christmas. Although all the information can be a bit overwhelming, it is so amazingly helpful. For example, there was an article by Chris Homer entitled “Show them how great it’ll look.” This article featured the gals from Whitebox Weddings and stated how Sara and Mel use “real-world examples” of their portraits displayed in their client’s homes. I wanted to show you some images that was shown in their client’s home…

I think that most people are afraid to go up to an 11×14 or 16×20 because it seems too big, but it actually makes a really great statement and is not too big at all. Here are some other examples I found of gallery wraps (photos by Laura Novak)…

I am back from the Brianna Graham Workshop! It was so insightful and I learned so much. I also met a lot of wonderful photographers from all over the country. Even though Brianna Graham’s style is not my style, I still took away something valuable and will apply it to my style and what I want to portray. I really love natural and real moments, but love color and texture. I love a more journalistic, simplistic approach, but also love color in odd places. I shot all in raw, which I haven’t done before and really like the outcome. The goal in coming away from a workshop like this is not trying to emulate the instructor’s work. Brianna Graham has painstakingly created and perfected her own very specific art. Trying to copy someone else’s work would cheapen your own work. Being you is so much better. I look forward in my continued pursuit of just that. Here is a little cutie that modeled for us on one of the workshop days. I have several more images I will be sharing…

Taking chances…

When I first wanted to pursue photography a year or so after college, never would I have dreamed that I would have a business in it one day. Never would I have dreamed that I would fulfill an artistic desire I had all my life, but didn’t know how to accomplish it. I was always someone quiet and timid growing up. If a teacher called on me in class, I would turn beat red and very shyly answer the question or not answer it at all.

Putting myself out there and letting my guard down has never been easy for me. My personality and temperament has had the potential of keeping me from wonderful opportunities, however, in 2008 I took the plunge of quitting a steady day job to doing photography full-time. I had no idea what was in store for me. I had the opportunity to attend a week long workshop in Asheville, NC held by Corey McNabb and Amber Holriz. With it being my first workshop and having little photography experience, I felt very intimidated. Had I given into my natural tendency to not put myself out there, I would have missed one of the most coolest, inspiring and life-changing experiences of my life. Not only did I meet photographers there that I still keep in touch with, I learned SO much about business, shooting in difficult settings, marketing, and the list could go on.

My business has grown a lot since then, a little over two years ago. I have always loved to learn and never wanted to miss class, even in high school. To me, if we as people cease to learn, then we have the potential of becoming stagnant and stale in everything we do. Educating myself in my business and industry is so important and valuable to me. It is how I become better at what I do, and in turn, makes me a better photographer for the industry and my clients. I am super excited about attending a Brianna Graham workshop this coming Sunday and Monday. We will be shooting downtown Atlanta and have two full days of invaluable information. I am nervous because I won’t know anybody, but know that putting myself out there is never a bad thing. I can’t wait to share what I learn!

I never got around to sharing a couple of Christmas cards that I received from two different clients over the holidays. The first few are of the beautiful “S” family. I was hesitant to sell my digital images at first because I didn’t know how the end product would look. This particular client of mine used Minted for her Christmas card needs and I couldn’t have been more pleased with how they turned out. If you do not go through me, I highly recommend them or Tiny Prints. If you would like other recommendations of labs I approve with digital collections, please ask! Otherwise, I cannot guarantee a good outcome.

The next example is of the “M” family and designed by my designer Jessica Mullen. Check her out for your baby announcement, Christmas cards, or logo needs.

Product Spotlight…Wallet Album

I just got this in the mail yesterday and before I send it off to my client, I wanted to share some images of it. This is the wallet album and is a perfect addition to any order. It is sized so perfectly to fit in a pocket book or to display on a coffee table or end table. It comes in four different colors…black, apple green, light blue and pink.
