{The age of Exploring}…Belmont, NC family photography

I first met this little guy when he was just a newborn. I think I have a shot with his head on mommy’s chest from the time he was just a couple of weeks old, to now, as an almost 2 year old. We had a blast in this field, as little “L” played with his truck, sat in a radio flyer wagon, and tried to catch ladybugs. The first two shots are from when he was a newborn, then again at 1 year old, and now as an almost 2 year old. It was great seeing you guys again! I hope you enjoy your slideshow here!

{To Jax…on my first Mother’s day}…

They placed you on my chest after a relatively short labor. I felt fear, relieved, tired, excitement…but, mostly fear. In that moment, it didn’t feel real that I actually just gave birth and they were now placing you, my SON, on my chest. The weeks and couple of months that ensued, I began to feel more anxious and felt extremely inadequate to be your mother. I cannot say that I entered into motherhood with grace…I stumbled into it, clumsily, like a baby fawn learning how to walk for the first time. But somewhere along the line we began to bond, connect, and fall in love.

I don’t know if it was the first time you locked eyes with mine and held them there as tears rolled down my face. I don’t know if it was the first time you smiled after I sang you the song I made up. I don’t know if it was the first time you got shots and it broke my heart to see you cry. I don’t know if it was the first time you slept through the night (haha!). I don’t know if it was the first time I rocked you to sleep in my arms.

I understand now when people say, it gets better and better. I know it’s only been 4 months, but each day gets better and better. My love for you grows a little more everyday… when I walk into your room and hear you cooing in the morning….when I brush your dark hair, look into your blue eyes, when I whisper your name. You don’t even know it yet, but you have encouraged me that I can do this…I can be your mommy. In your eyes, I can do no wrong. In your eyes, I am your everything. In your eyes, I am the greatest mom in the world. That makes me feel pretty special. I love you, Jax. Thank you for believing in me, for being patient with me, for loving me as I have embarked on this journey called motherhood.

Beautiful…the first thing that comes to my mind when I look at baby “W.” Yes, he is a boy, but just look at him?! Those eyes, that angelic face. He is perfect! I came back to the home of the “M” family this past weekend and he sure has grown since our last session. He can hold his head up, so alert, and smiley. Thank you “M” family! Much love! {30 years new}…

You pulled up into the driveway of my on campus apartment in your beat up jeep, with no windows, teaching my sister how to drive stick shift. I walked out in gym shorts and a t-shirt, casually said hello, said something to my sister, and that is how we formally met. A few months later you would be asking me out and I would be turning you down a couple of times. You were rough around the edges, but very different from the other guys on campus. You were carefree, a this-is-me-take-it-or-leave-it attitude, and I was intrigued by you, but hesitant too.

Who was this roughneck from Alabama, with holes in his jeans, unruly hair, and carefree attitude? We finally went out and from then you have been it. Of course there is so much more to our story from the time I met you as a 19 year old in my driveway to now…the day you turn 30. I never dreamed I would marry such a hardworking, funny, sensitive, loving, talented man. I feel so extremely blessed to be with you and to have you the father of my baby.

You have loved me through my scars, heartache, and trials. Our love continues to grow stronger. I can’t wait to spend the next 30 years with you. Happy birthday, love!

Well, another one of my favorite little clients has hit her 1 year milestone. Her parents threw her an adorable 1 year birthday party surrounded by their family and friends. I have had the joy of watching this beauty grow from the time she was a tiny newborn, into a beautiful and spirited 1 year old. Here she was last year…

And here she is now….I can’t believe how grown up she looks! She sure looks darling in that pink dress. I have loved spending time with you guys this year. Look at that angelic face! Baby “C” was quite precious. The words that I feel describe him and his session are…perfect, peaceful, and serene. I loved the way this family interacted together. I loved the way they cuddled up so comfortably that I didn’t have to give any direction. I loved the way that Angela and Raffe watched their children play and discover…together. I first met this family a couple of years ago and was thrilled to get to photograph them again. It’s only been a little over 3 months when Jax was born, but his tininess as a newborn is fading from my memory. He is almost 13 pounds now and it’s hard to believe he was just a few pounds in January. That is why I am so glad to have photographs to remember that fleeting time of him as a newborn.

Meet baby “S.” She has the most beautiful, delicate and tiny features. Mom and dad are very much in love with her…how could they not be! Look at this face! Thank you so much “D” family for allowing me to be apart of this special time in your lives. Enjoy your slideshow here!

I want him to know how I remembered him at this age. I also want him to know me before I was his mommy. My dear friend, Tonia, got me a mother’s journal. It is called “A family keepsake: reflections from a mother’s heart…Your life story in your own words.” It is one of the most thoughtful gifts I received and one that Jax can look back on years from now. I plan on writing in it little by little, along with my other journal.

Jax is so alert right now. His eyelashes are so long, eyes still blue, and smiling really big at times. We are working on getting him to raise his head while he is on his tummy. He still has a lot of dark hair. He looks for me and smiles when he sees me…which, melts my heart.

One of the entries in the journal keepsake asks “what was your favorite pastime as a child?” Well, Jax…I craved alone time as much as playing with friends. I loved books and loved being the characters in my books. One of my favorites was “The Velveen Rabbit.” I would pretend my stuffed animals were real, just like the rabbit in the book became. At one point, I really did think my stuffed animals came alive while I slept.

Here you are at 3 months old…so, so handsome.
